Custom Property Field: Date Type: Format

This topic has been very important for years. 

These are the needs about custom property field of date type:

1. System Format
As you know at that moment the format of field is not a date. This a problem when we want to include this field in Expression fields or calculated attributes. If we have two custom property fields (two dates) and we want to make a simply calculate difference in days - cannot do it.

2. Display Format
There is a problem controlling the display format of this type of field in documents (not in navigators).
I thought what I can suggest to you on this issue and what do you think about developing a field in the Definition of custom property called Display Format? With it we can easily control display format of Date and Number types.

  Hello,

  Following our internal discussion, we came up with the following decisions:

  - regarding the formatting of Date Type Custom Properties – our suggestion is to display the Custom Property field in the Document Panel - so, in this way the formatting of its value will be possible.

  - regarding the calculation of differences between values of Date Type Custom Properties – we are still discussing the issue.

  However, for better user visualization and to be much easier to convert into date type by using Calculated Attributes, we are considering changing the system format of recording the value of Date Type Custom Properties -  from a text string without separators to a string with a dash between the year, the month, and the date /e.g. 2021-06-10/. It is still under discussion and we will inform you in case we make any decision.

  Hi,

  - We cannot use Document panel for the purpose of this ticket - for example in one our project we have 30 customer properties(date type). Otherwise we know about it.

  - Is there any solution about differences between two dates?

  - Is there any solution about visualization of customer property (date type) in Customer property panel?

  Hi,

  Based on our internal discussion we have already decided that we cannot change the formatting of Date Type Custom Properties in the Custom properties values Panel because the formatting is applied for the whole column but not for the specific field.

  Nevertheless, we came up with a decision to create a development task - the system format of recording the value of Date Type Custom Properties to be changed from a text string without separators to a string with a dash between the year, the month, and the date /e.g. 2021-06-10/.

  As I mentioned in my previous comment, this change will facilitate the conversion into date type by using Calculated Attributes and the visualization will be improved.

  We will inform you as soon as the development is realized.

  Regarding the calculation of differences between values of Date Type Custom Properties – this case is still under discussion. In case of any change, you will be updated.

  Hi Nadezhda,

  This type of visualization (2021-06-10) is still incorrect for all clients of ERP.net. May be for US clients it will be OK, but there it is like this 06/10/2021.

  Hi Aleksandar,

  The format YYYY-MM-DD is the standard way of recording date-type data in SQL Server. It enables this data to be processed by different operators and functions.

  Moreover, the international standard - ISO 8601 – also sets out this format as an internationally agreed way to represent dates.

  So, it is highly recommended that we apply the format YYYY-MM-DD in order to harmonize different local formats and to prevent errors in processing data.

  Please provide feedback about display format of custom property (date type). We are currently working with version 2022 and in it the values of these properties are the same as version 2020 (for example 20220527) and not 2022-05-27 .

  Hello,

  please advise is it possible to use a Value of Date Type Custom Properties into Calculated Attributes? To calculate the difference between the Value of the Date type Custom Property and other Date of a system field of Date Time format?

  We have tried to use it in calculations in CA but received an error:
  "The string '20241125' was not recognised as a valid DateTime".

  And after additional converting and formating using different Operators (Cast,Convert,Formatstring,Substring) - we have the same error popping up.

  So have you tried and succeeded in using a Date Value of Custom Property in calculations between dates in Calculated Attribute?

  thank you for the link - i tried implementing the code in the CA and still received the same result - an Error message.

  Do you think I should log a Ticket so we can further discuss the situation in details?
