ERP.net is compatible with ISO 639 Set 1 Language Codes (v.25)

We are pleased to announce that our platform is now fully compatible with ISO 639 Set 1 two-letter language identifiers, in accordance with ISO 639-1:2002. This standard includes the most widely used two-letter codes for major individual languages, such as:

  • EN – English

  • BG – Bulgarian

  • FR – French

  • DE – German

  • … and many more.

These are often referred to as neutral culture languages, as our system does not support microlanguages or regional variations (e.g., EN is supported, but EN-US is not).

🔍 Why Is This So Important?

Using ISO 639 neutral languages enables seamless synchronization across the platform, including:

  • Selection of UI culture

  • Multi-language string support

  • Database culture handling

  • Culture-based serialization and deserialization of multilingual data

By aligning to ISO 639, the platform ensures consistency in how language is interpreted and applied across all modules.

🔧 Where ISO 639 Language Support Is Reflected

The integration of ISO 639 Set 1 languages is embedded across various components of the system, including:

  • Language selection menus in desktop and web clients

  • Defining allowed languages in desktop clients

  • Dropdown selection of a default user language

  • All combo boxes for language choice throughout the platform

  • Validations for correct language input

  • Usage of cultures in language resource files

  • And more...

By default, a newly added user has a blank Default Language field, which is automatically treated as EN (English).

🌐 Where to Find and Set Language Options

The Default language of the instance can be set by the config option "Default lanaguage".

Config option "ActiveLanguages" displays the currently active languages.

You can set or modify language preferences in the following areas:

In Desktop Client:

  • Go to the Language menu at the top right corner and select Edit Languages

  • Choose your set of work languages

  • In the User Definition, the Default Language field lists the selected work languages

Currently, the platform offers a choice of 140 neutral languages, providing a broad and standardized range of options for global users.
